Humbly Amazed at His Grace

Need a little humbling?  Have you forgotten where you were when God saved you?  Have you become arrogant and judgmental of others?  Try this exercise on for size.  It sure humbled me.

This is taken from 1 Timothy 1:12-17.  Fill in your own past and sins in the bold area.  Really take the time to think and pray through where you’ve been and what you’ve done.  Then read it aloud.  Trust me, you will be amazed at his grace.

“I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me faithful, appointing me to his service. Even though I was once an adulteress, a liar, a blasphemer, one who spit in the face of Christ as I threw his gift of acceptance back at him.  I was once a fornicator, ungodly, and full of selfishness.  I ridiculed his disciples.  I disgraced the role of a wife by abandoning my husband to pursue my own selfish desires and lusts.  God was giving me the gift of children and I abandoned them as well, leaving them without a home once again.  I displayed almost every one of the “works of the flesh” – adultery, fornication, uncleanness, obscenity, idolatry of myself, hatred, contentions, jealousy, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, and envy. I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.  Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.”

Wow…..if that doesn’t put things into perspective for you, I’m not sure what will.  Praise the God of heaven and earth who has loved me in my most unlovable states.
